* I generally write using the pronouns he/him when referring to narcissists, but females are just as likely to be narcissists or exhibit narcissistic traits. So please don't think just because article uses the word him or he that it could not be a woman in that same role.
Dating is hard enough, but dating a narcissist takes dating to a whole new level.
When you date someone, you want to be able to feel respected and appreciated, but this can be hard to decipher when dating somebody with narcissistic tendencies. So how to know if a narcissist is finished with you or not?

So, when in this predicament, how can you tell if your partner has truly finished with you?
What is a Narcissist?
Before we delve into the ‘how’, it is first essential to look at the ‘what’. What exactly is a narcissist?
A narcissist is a trait in people in which they admire themselves more than others.
You will often find these types of people struggling to show any signs of empathy towards others which inevitably makes it difficult for them to build solid relationships (both friendly and romantically).
What is Narcissistic Abuse & How to spot it
Whilst many view narcissism simply as a negative personality trait, it is actually considered a mental condition.
These individuals cannot physically help the way their personalities are, even if that means being disliked.
The Traits of a Narcissist
There are several traits which are common among narcissists:
Sense of self importance
- Lack of empathy
- An excessive need for admiration
- Difficulty with attachment
- Easily bored
- Arrogant thinking
- Manipulative
- Suicidal tendencies
Is Your Relationship Over?
Because of the many traits narcissists hold such as having a lack of empathy, it is very difficult to tell if they are tired of the relationship and are ending it with you.
It is especially difficult because of their need for admiration. Whilst it may come across as a love for the relationship, it may simply be a craving for admiration.
Below, we will be listing out some ways you can tell a narcissist is finished with you.
They Are Ghosting You
If you are finding it excruciatingly more difficult to meet with your partner or get a hold of them or they are always coming up with some kind of excuse, then it is likely they are avoiding you on purpose.
To put it into short terms, they are ghosting you. The unfortunate thing is that this is all done with a vision in mind and that is to have you wanting them even more.
They are bored of the normal relationship and instead are wanting to turn it into a game, playing with your mind. This is a very clear sign that they are finished with you on a personal, loving level.
They Are Always Annoyed
Have you noticed that your partner has been constantly annoyed lately? Is everything you do and say a burden to them? Well, this is a clear sign that they are not interested in you anymore.
Over time, they will start to pick out more things, telling you to your face all the things they don’t like about you or just being critical.
They want to bring down your self-esteem as they know it will bring theirs up. This is a critical trait to look out for.
They Manipulate You
Narcissists are notorious for their manipulative behavior, and this is a trait which can really come out once they are fed up with a relationship.
At this stage, you have probably noticed some of these signs– they are distant and picking out your insecurities.
Because of this, you would have confronted them about the constant abuse in which they will quickly turn it around on you.
They will manipulate you and make it seem like it is your fault that they are abusive, wearing you down.
They Disrespect Your Name
Another sign that your narcissistic partner is done with you is that they disrespect your name.

For instance, you guys may be having lunch with friends and family when your partner starts telling elaborate stories, exaggerating and displaying you in a negative light.
It may seem jokey however they are purposely mocking you. This behavior is very toxic.
They No Longer Need Your Validation
Narcissists love attention and they love it even more when people praise them for things that make them feel good.
However, if you are showering them with compliments and they are still reacting negatively, then that is a major telltale sign. Naturally, they should love that validation but if it is not working with you then that means they are finished with you.
Is It Worth Dating a Narcissist?
As we have previously mentioned, dating, in general, is difficult but when it comes to dating a narcissist, that is a whole new level.
So, this leads to the question – is it worth dating a narcissist? Unfortunately, there is no straightforward answer. We can’t help who we fall for, and we can’t help it if that happens to be someone with a narcissistic personality.
It is worth it when it comes to short-term happiness. They may treat you good, make you happen, you may go on adventures together and make memories, but for many narcissists this will not last forever.
They will get bored easily and find someone who they deem as better than yourself. If you are looking for someone to stay with on a long-term basis then that will be difficult to accomplish with a narcissist.
It is not worth wasting countless years just to eventually be belittled, emotionally abused, and heartbroken.
Ultimate, a person is able to have a relationship with a narcissist but they cannot have a healthy relationship.
Final Thoughts
If you know that your partner is a narcissist and they are becoming emotionally stale in your relationship, then it is highly likely that they are finished with you.
Whilst this may be hard to hear, it is for the best. People deserve partners who will empathize with them and not tear them down when they are at their lowest.
They need partners who can commit and not look at a relationship on a superficial level. If you can relate to any of the signs we have listed above, then it is time to move on.
